“Twisting in the wind” – Bernick and Schott on politics Ep. 352

President Donald Trump visited Utah on Monday where he slashed 2 million acres from two National Monuments. Several groups are threatening to sue, so this will be tied up in the courts for years.

Rep. Chris Stewart is proposing a new national park where Grand Staircase-Escalante used to be, but there are some sneaky things contained in his idea.

President Trump encouraged Sen. Orrin Hatch to run for another term to presumably block Mitt Romney from running. Romney is reportedly getting impatient with Hatch’s indecision on whether he’s going to run for another term next year. Will Romney decide to jump into the race no matter what Hatch decides?

Steve Bannon stirs up a hornet’s nest by attacking Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith.

Sen. Orrin Hatch defended President Trump’s endorsement of controversial Alabama Republican Roy Moore, then had to walk that back after Bannon’s attack on Mormons.

Republicans have decided to back Roy Moore despite the horrific allegations against him, which was a “party over principle” moment for the GOP.

Bob Bernick and Bryan Schott discuss the news from a big week in Utah politics.
