Whitley blog wins Utah Society of Professional Journalists awards

Utah Policy contributor Jared Whitley won awards last week at the annual awards banquet of the Utah Society of Professional Journalists Headliners contest, taking the title for “Best Overall Blog” for his regular contributions to the site.

“Whitley successfully wrote about a wide range of issues that could help the reader better understand a complicated issue, make them think harder about something around them, or just give them a chuckle,” the judges said in their comments.

Some of Whitley’s more memorable posts from last year included a satirical critique of the modern protest culture, a possible solution to the ongoing nationwide monument debate, and a list of 10 things he needs more than a self-driving car.

“Such a recognition from my peers is a tremendous honor,” Whitley said. “I’m so grateful for the recognition and for Utah Policy’s support of my unique voice on local and national issues.”

Whitley also received 2nd place awards in the categories opinioneditorial, and religion/values. He also earned honorable mentions for headline writing and the single blog post.
