Former President Bill Clinton was in Utah on Monday for an event with former President George W. Bush. While here, he found time to squeeze in a fundraiser for Salt Lake County Mayoral candidate Ben McAdams.

One person at the fundraiser tells UtahPolicy about 15 people attended the private event at the Grand America. Clinton and McAdams both spoke. The fete lasted about 45 minutes.

McAdams confirmed details when contacted by Utah Policy. He says, all in all, the fundraiser pulled in an astonishing $110,000 for his campaign.

“Reaching across the aisle is something I’ve been committed to doing throughout my political career,” says McAdams. “I’m flattered President Clinton recognizes that and I’m honored he would spend some time with my supporters”

The $110,000 more than doubles the $97,000 McAdams had on hand at the end of the last reporting period. It’s also more than 5-times the amount reported by his Republican opponent, Mark Crockett.

Crockett’s campaign manager, Randy O’Hara, says he’s not surprised that Clinton would hold a fundraiser for McAdams. “Ben has tried to create this image that he’s bipartisan and middle of the road. Clinton raising money for him shows he’s nothing more than a traditional liberal Democrat.”
