Tuesday through Friday of this week LaVarr Webb will be on vacation, so his Buzz commentary will not be included with Utah Policy Daily. We will send each day the usual headline links to political stories, news highlights and quote of the day. Webb's commentary will return on Monday, April 25.

News Highlights

Sen. Orrin Hatch is proposing legislation that would legalize stem cell research but also make it a crime to clone human beings (Deseret Morning News).

Eight Utah lawmakers, their spouses and a lobbyist have departed on a "goodwill mission" to Taiwan, but they didn't have an itinerary of what they would do when they got there (Salt Lake Tribune).

The Red Rock Wilderness Act is back before Congress (Tribune).

Quote of the Day
"Hinchey and Durbin's legislation, this time trotted out with 151 co-sponsors - including 13 members of the Senate - is the latest version of a bill that then-Utah Democratic Rep. Wayne Owens introduced in 1989."

- Salt Lake Tribune article on the latest manifestation of the much-debated Utah Red Rock Wilderness Bill, co-sponsored by Democrats from New York and Illinois.
