Wise Words

“In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank.  People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!'  or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!'

-- Dave Barry, "Christmas Shopping:  A Survivor's Guide" (Quote Garden

“He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.”

-- Roy L. Smith (Patriot Post.)

Campaign Tip

Build a Better Campaign Website

1. Create a graphic design that says something about the candidate.

2. Give visitors stuff to do besides just give you money.

3. Recognize your best volunteers.

4. Make fundraising pitches specific and tie them to events in the news

5. Cut down on the number of emails, particularly the ones begging for money.

6. Don't blog unless you are going to embrace the spirit of blogging.

7. Publish as much content as possible via RSS feeds.

8. If you go negative, try to be clever about it.

9. Provide users with a behind the scenes look at your campaign.

10. Create a community around your site. (For more information, see Bivings Report)

Blog Watch

At Citizens for Principled Government, LaVar Christensen writes about the possibility of property tax reform in the upcoming legislative session. A large hurdle to reform is the current wording in the State Constitution.

In her Media Relations blog, Jeri Cartwright notes that 51 teen journalists are being given a laptop, video camera and a mobile phone to cover the presidential election for MTV and other news outlets.

Lighter Side

“The difference between Sly Stallone and me is that I am me and he is him.”

-- Arnold Schwarzenegger (Reader’s Digest)
