COMMUNITY MATTERS

United Way of Salt Lake Brings People and Resources Together to Solve Our Communities' Most Serious Social Problems

Social issues do not exist in isolation. Consequently, no one individual or organization operating alone can solve them. It requires caring individuals from every sector of our community coming together to understand our most critical social issues and create lasting change.

For this reason, United Way of Salt Lake has organized four Community Change Councils, through which we are bringing to together skilled professionals from government, business, faith groups, nonprofits, and the private sector to tackle the issues that matter most to the communities within our service area. These Change Councils serve an important role in mobilizing the caring power of the community to address critical needs and community-based solutions to social issues. There are many talented and resourceful individuals who want to be equally invested in solving community problems and the Change Councils give them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with social issues and help develop meaningful, sustainable solutions.

Now in its first year, more than 100 Change Council volunteers are engaged in developing impact strategies within four areas of focus:

1. Improving Financial Stability
2. Opening Doors to Educational Achievement
3. Strengthening Children and Families
4. Protecting and Meeting Basic Needs

During the next several months we will highlight each of the change councils and what they are accomplishing. Please read the Impact Matters article in this newsletter for more information regarding the organization of the Change Councils and their specific objectives.
