House Minority Leader David Litvack, D-Salt Lake, conducts the House Thursday afternoon as speaker pro tem. Just after this photo was taken, Rep. Francis Gibson, R-Mapleton, lead the House and gallery in a standing ovation in appreciation of Litvack's service. Litvack announced Monday he's retiring this year.

Gibson said he'd come to admire Litvack and his passion and civility in the short three years that Gibson has been in the House. He said Litvack invited him into his house to have dinner with his family and was always a model legislator and friend, even though as a conservative Republican Gibson may not have always agreed with Litvack on political issues.
