Ouch! A member of the Utah Republican Party's Central Committee says Dan Liljenquist is "in over his head" in his quest to unseat Orrin Hatch.

Cache Valley Daily talks with David James, who is the former Cache County Republican Chairman. James bluntly says he thinks Liljenquist is running out of money and "doesn't have a chance" against Hatch.

"I wish he would have stayed in the state senate. I mean, he was a valuable contributor. It was just the wrong race. He got ahead of himself, and that happens with everybody, particularly politicians. You get a little of this and it goes to your head, and all of a sudden you can be the president of the United States when in reality you're just in way over your head," James said.

Mike -

Why would we remove your comment?

Also, why are you even worried about this. You're not in the story.

As a point of clarification: Mr. James is not a "prominent Utah Republican". He served a term as County Chairman, and likes to let people know what he thinks. His comments are not representative of all of Cache Valley republicans.

Isn't it so sad that running out of money equals not having a chance? What happened to voters doing their own research and finding a candidate who represents their values rather than relying on mailers, yard signs and TV ads to tell them who to vote for? The only reason special interests have so much power in Washington is because we (collectively) don't make informed decisions. Dan Liljenquist is the most qualified candidate for office I have ever met and it breaks my heart that he won't win (if that is even true).

I am also sad that politics has become a horse race. Rather than discussing governance (or at least voting records or qualifications) we talk about who can and can't win. I am starting to think that people vote for whomever they believe will win, else why would the candidates spend so much time talking about how they're "ahead" or "have the momentum" or how the other guy "has no chance"?
