Dan Liljenquist is up with his first TV ad before the primary election, which hits Orrin Hatch hard over his refusal to debate.

Here's the ad:

From Politico:

The ad is the beginning of a $125,000, two-week buy on broadcast television and Fox News Channel aimed at framing the final month ahead of the June 26 primary.

“Everybody in the state — top to bottom — have called aggressively for open and transparent debates in this process. They’ve been rebuffed by the Hatch campaign,” Liljenquist, a former state senator, said in an interview Monday. “I’m asked about it everywhere I go, ‘Why won’t he debate?’ It’s disrespectful and everybody knows it.”

Hatch’s refusal to agree to a slate of debates proposed by Liljenquist has earned him a flurry of unflattering headlines, even from media outlets that are typically friendly to the incumbent.

As a state delegate, a citizen of Utah, and a citizen of the United States, I agree with Dan. I believe the people of Utah are owed a debate. I think it is cowardly to hide from a debate, especially when Orrin Hatch in 1976 demanded the same debates of his then opponent.

Why have the rules changed now? What is Hatch trying to hide? I'm from a rural town, Heber City, and most of the folks there are demanding a debate as well, both Hatch and Liljenquist supporters.

It is utter hypocrisy to attack your opponent in 1976 for refusing to debate, and then refusing to debate in 2012.

It's time for fresh blood, and Dan Liljenquist has my vote.

Its crap and not worth watching Dan spout off! He uses wording as is used above to make it sound like people really are asking him questions about the debate, when in fact he gets in front of people and frames the questions for them. Dan will state what he believes to be a fact, but in retrospect all he really has done is frame the question and waited for some poor naive person to ask why. It's mind-boggling to see how he twists things to to appear like they are an advantage for him!

To quote someone else, I offer this:

If you were translate the ad into what it's actually saying, it'd be: "Hi, I'm some nerdy guy you don't really know anything about. Rather than talk about my accomplishments or plans for the Senate, I'm spending $125,000 to let you know that Orrin Hatch -- the guy you HAVE heard of and probably like -- won't participate in a debate you wouldn't watch anyway. Call Senator Hatch and ask him to explain this advertisement to you as I'm sure it makes no sense to anyone who doesn't work for my campaign. I'm Dan Something-or-Other, and I approve this message."

Weak sauce.

I find the above rundown of Dan's ad on point, and will be happy to call Htach's office and tell them to keep denying the debate...its more fun to watch Dan pout and whine!

Momof3 is Anissa Wardell of Heber City. She's paid by Senator Hatch to help bolster his online reputation and apparently make fun of his opponents. Classy.

I'm a Liljenquist supporter and I think he is right to call for a televised debate. As much as the Hatch Machine would love to hide behind 30 second TV spots, Utahns need to have a chance to see the candidates discuss the issues.
