There was an emotional moment in the Utah House on Thursday morning when a bill that would set up an opt-in program in schools teaching youngsters how to avoid being sexually abused passed.

In the gallery were Elizabeth Smart, and her father, Ed.
Elizabeth, of course, received national attention several years ago when she was abducted from her Avenues home in the night by a man, who sexually abused her for months as he traveled around Utah and California.
Elizabeth survived, and has since gone to college, married and has become a national spokeswoman for prevention of sexual abuse of children.
(She was a junior high school student when taken.)
After HB286 passed unanimously, House members applauded Elizabeth, who clapped back to their recognition.
