Former Rep. Mia Love said Sunday President Donald Trump has backed himself into a corner and will “lose the presidency” if he can’t get money to build his proposed border wall.
“I believe if the president backs away from border security and his border wall, he will lose the presidency,” said Love on CNN’s State of the Union.
Love said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should use Trump’s need for the wall funding as leverage extract concessions from the White House. Love suggested Pelosi should demand permanent protections for “dreamers” or immigrants who are currently under Temporary Protected Status.
“She can ask for anything,” said Love.
On Saturday, President Trump proposed a deal to Democrats that included more than $5 billion for the border wall in exchange for a three-year extension of protections for undocumented immigrants who are benefiting from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.
