Rep. Chris Stewart said efforts by Democrats to continue to pursue information contained in the Mueller report will backfire, resulting in a victory by President Donald Trump.
“I think for those who are pursuing this, I think the American people are exhausted by it. I think they’re so tired of it,” said Stewart on CNN Friday morning. “I think they are handing the president the greatest gift they could give him in the 2020 election. I think most Americans realize this is unfair to keep going and going.”
A day after a redacted version of the Mueller report was made public, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena to the Justice Department to obtain the full report. Stewart says he believes every member of Congress should be allowed to see the full report, but he does not believe it contains any bombshells.
“I don’t believe there’s a single American who could undergo this kind of scrutiny and not find something. There’s a difference between things that are embarassing and things that are illegal,” he said.
