Giuliani rips Romney: ‘Stop this pious act’

Rudy Giuliani hammered Utah Sen. Mitt Romney on Sunday morning for his statement earlier in the week that he was “sickened” by the behavior of President Donald Trump and those in his orbit detailed in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. 

Giuliani on CNN’s State of the Union ripped into Romney’s criticism of the Trump campaign’s willingness to accept damaging information about Hillary Clinton from Russia during the 2016 campaign. Giuliani seemed to insinuate, without evidence, that Romney attempted to solicit help from foreign countries during his 2012 campaign.

“Stop the bull. Stop this pious act that you weren’t trying to dig up dirt on people,” said Giuliani. “What a hypocrite. Any candidate in the whole world would take information…”

Giuliani, who is President Trump’s lawyer, alleged Romney’s campaign acted unethically during the 2012 presidential race when he faced Romney during the Republican primary.

“I’d like to take a look at Romney’s campaign and see if there were unethical things done by the people working for him that he didn’t know about,” he said.

Giuliani also claimed it’s not illegal for a campaign to accept dirt on an opponent dug up by a foreign country.

“There’s nothing wrong with taking information from Russians. You’re assuming that the giving of information is a campaign contribution,” said Giuliani. 

It’s illegal to accept campaign contributions from foreign sources in federal races.

On Friday, former Governor Mike Huckabee attacked Romney on Twitter over his criticism of Trump’s campaign.

“Know what makes me sick, Mitt?” wrote Huckabee. “Not how disingenuous you were to take @RealDonaldTrump $$and then 4 yrs later jealously trash him & then love him again when you begged to be Sec of State, but makes me sick that you got GOP nomination and could have been @POTUS.”

 

 

President Trump also ripped Romney on Twitter saying if he “spent the same energy fighting Barack Obama” as he does fighting him, “he could have won the race (maybe)!”
